I thought food was my only enemy on this journey in Made to Crave, but the scale is another weapon Satan uses against me. I get on the scale and immediately the lies come one after another. You're not losing more weight, just quit. You're too weak to go on, so give up! You need this number on the scale to make you feel good about yourself. Then for some reason I'll then go do something else, and I'll get right back on the scale. I keep willing the number to change and those thoughts repeat over and over! But in this journey I see these as lies now! I'm using God's words and obedience to gain peace over food and the scale I've never had before. Lysa TerKeurst writes on page 71 in Made to Crave, "The Holy Spirit uses God's words stored up inside us to nudge us, remind us, redirect us, empower us, and lead us on to victory."
So when I get discouraged and want to quit, He tells me: Therefore we don't lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day. 2 Corinthians 4:16.
So when I think I'm too weak to go on, He tells me: God arms me with strength and makes my way perfect. Psalm 18:30.
So when the number on the scale tells me I'm not worthy, He tells me: For we are God's workmanship created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do. Ephesians 2:10.
I know I'm going to lose weight on this journey. But I know it isn't about a food craving, or a magic number on the scale. It is about delighting in obedience to only Him! I am really craving Him! Whether it be in quiet time with Him, when I thank Him for giving me self-control over a food, or completing a workout when I'd rather not! I am not a number on a scale, I am His!!
In your strength I can crush an army, with God I can scale any wall. Psalm 18:29
Thank you for sharing these verses! I know I need God so much through everything! I know I feel so much better when I stay in His Word more and pray!! I had tears of joy when I exercised just a few minutes more than the day before. It is all because of Him. We can do this! You are more than a number! Thanks for the encouragement!
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing these verses!! I will also be printing them out to save for those times when needed! We are more than numbers, we are treasured by Him!
